Q:Can you implement (or maybe it already exists) the ability to embed formated and syntax highlighted code in pages? currently the best I can get is wrapping code in <code style="white-space:pre"> and I still can't use syntax highlighting because javascript is filtered out. Especially since one of your suggestions on the http://youcanusepento.pen.io/ page is to share a code snippet.
Yes this should be coming soon.
Q:Hi!
I'm really enjoying pen.io. I believe this will become a great tool for my students. I'm sure pen.io has the power to change their relation to the writing activities. Thanks to all the people who made this possible!!
Now, I've got a question about the images we insert in our pages: do you have any plans to creat a resizing option?
Best regards,
José Lisandro Sánchez
yes. eventually we’ll add the ability to edit images including the ability to resize. At the moment, if you wish to display small images, you can replace :image, with :imagesmall or :imageleft/:imageright
New :comments Tag on Pen.io
You can now add a comments stream to any pen.io page.
Just add the :comments tag anywhere on the page and now your page visitors can give you feedback.
Thats it. (stay tuned for more features coming real soon).
Q:Hi,
Is their a way we can see the views on our own pages?
Maybe through a link on the edit page, so it stays private.
Anyway, keep up the good work.
Lovely service you've created :-)
This will be a feature offered later on down the road. In the meantime, I’ll also look at creating a couple of PenUp (http://penup.pen.io) tags to add either Google Analytics or GetClicky, for the advanced users.
New Pen.io Homepage
The Pen.io homepage has been given a refresh. Hopefully its even more pleasing on the eyes.
Popular Pages
The new homepage design now features a “popular” section. These pages will update every few hours. How does a page make it to the popular section? At the moment, its based purely on traffic.
Next up - Tags
After launching Pen.io, it soon became clear that the site needed a discovery mechanism. Right now, its hard to find out what other pages are being created on the network. So in the next release of Pen.io, we’ll be introducing a tagging mechanism. You’ll be able to tag any page with any tags and browse the entire network using these tags.
New Link Tag on Pen.io
Probably the most requested feature has been a more elegant way to handle URL’s or Links on Pen.io. Before this more recent update, the only way to add a link to a Pen.io page was through HTML.
You can still add links using HTML but now you can also make use of a couple of new features for URL’s:
Autolinks
By default, if you enter any URL into a Pen.io page, it will automatically link to its destination. No more having to enter HTML. This makes it super quick to to share a bunch or URL’s.
The :link Tag
Autolinks work great, but how do you change the link text?
To use the :link tag:
:link The Link Text Goes Here http://thelinkurlgoesattheend.com
To recap, put :link followed by any text you want hyperlinked and finish it off with the actual URL you want to link to. Unlike HTML there is no escape tags.

New Image Tags!
For the past week, we’ve been trialling drag and drop image uploads on Pen.io. After getting your feedback, we’re adding some extra ways to manipulate images. To add an image, simply drag and drop an image on the page, it will be automatically uploaded and added. But you can also add images using these easy tags. Just copy the tags below, and replace the URL with the link to your image.
The Image Tags
These tags can be added to any page:
:image http://urlofimagegoeshere (this will place an image in the center of the page)
:imageleft http://urlofimagegoeshere (this will put an image with left alignment)
:imageright http://urlofimagegoeshere (this will put an image with right alignment)
This means you know have more control over where images get placed on the page.
